At 1600 hrs. third battalion units were dispatched to the 5700 blk of Gloria Dr. in company 29's area. Shortly after, the Engine and Truck from 37 were sent on the fire task force. The Company went en route and once on the scene was put to work right away by command. The Engine and Truck company encountered fire conditions in the hallways in the roof and in the basement. The house was evacuated a second time due to the fire in the basement burning freely and floor collapse in quadrant C of the house. While backing out of the home the truck officer heard a cry for help. Going toward the voice, the officer found an injured firefighter that had apparently fallen down some stairs leading to the basement and needed assistance. The officer radioed command the situation and the truck rapidly removed the firefighter in about two minutes. Once outside, the firefighter, who was operating on E827 was passed to awaiting EMS and transported to MEDSTAR with minor burns and a back injury. Crews operated for 2 hours before returning to service. Photo Courtesy of Morningside Volunteer Company 27.
